What are the preventive applications?

Among preventive applications against tooth decay, great importance is given to educating the child and family about oral-dental health and nutrition. At our clinic, tooth brushing technique is taught to our patients in a hands-on way. Preventive dentistry applications also include topical fluoride and fissure sealant procedures.

Fissure sealants

A flowable filling material that seals the deep, decay-prone fissures (grooves) on the chewing surfaces of permanent teeth, preventing bacteria from reaching them and thereby preventing decay. Fissure sealants should be checked every 6 months.

Fluoride applications

Fluoride is an element that prevents tooth decay and strengthens tooth structure. When teeth first erupt, the enamel is not fully matured, making new teeth more susceptible to decay. Fluoride strengthens the enamel and protects the tooth against acid attacks, preventing cavities.

Decay in baby teeth

Tooth decay is a disease that begins with the destruction of hard dental tissues by acids produced when bacteria ferment food. Especially in early childhood, putting honeyed, sugary or biscuit milk in the bottle during sleep, or dipping the pacifier in sugary foods, causes early childhood caries.

Dental trauma in children

Traumatic injuries are one of the most common problems in childhood. Treatment is planned considering the patient's age, the degree and location of injury, the tissues involved and the patient's general condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are space maintainers for?
In early baby tooth loss, appliances called space maintainers are used to protect the place of the permanent tooth coming from below. They prevent neighboring teeth from moving into the extraction space, which would cause the permanent tooth to stay impacted or erupt in the wrong place, leading to future orthodontic problems.
