Fixed prostheses, which raise the life standards of people unhappy with both the shape and color of their teeth, come in two types: metal-supported and all-ceramic. Fixed prostheses preferred for aesthetic purposes are usually all-ceramic — zirconia and laminate veneers.
Zirconia is a tissue-friendly material with high tensile strength. Since the light transmission of zirconia teeth is very similar to natural teeth, zirconia prostheses give a near-natural appearance. Zirconia crowns are fixed with special adhesives and adhere very well to the tooth, providing a highly aesthetic look.
While patients usually know zirconia ceramic teeth due to their popularity in the media, we also recommend glass ceramics known as Emax, which are even more aesthetic than zirconia porcelain teeth: with higher light transmission, Emax porcelain teeth give an even more natural appearance.
How are zirconia crowns applied?
A porcelain superstructure is processed onto the zirconia substructure produced in the color matching the tooth, and it is harmonized with the tooth in the clinical setting.

- Suitable for every age — zirconia crowns can be applied even at early ages to keep teeth strong and durable.

Why should zirconia porcelain be preferred?
- Thanks to their light transmission, zirconia-based porcelains achieve full harmony with natural teeth for a perfect aesthetic result.
- With no metal underneath, the artificial look seen in metal-based porcelain never occurs.
- Gum compatibility is much better than classic metal-based porcelain — the gum discoloration common with metal substructures never appears with zirconia.
- As a 99% tissue-friendly material it is non-allergenic and more advantageous for general health than metal-supported prostheses.
A zirconia crown lasts 5 to 15 years depending on use; with proper care and check-ups, extending this to 20 years is quite possible.
Preparation is done on the first day, followed by two trial sessions. The whole process is completed in about 1 week to 10 days unless complications arise.
It is suitable for all ages, but since teeth complete their development around 18-20, zirconia crowns are not recommended before then.
Zirconia is a harmless, metal-free material used with great confidence in dental crowns. It does not damage the tooth, does not cause decay, and leaves no gaps for bacteria to enter. It is also extremely durable and resistant to fracture.
