Prof. Dr. Tancan Uysal

Born in 1976 in Karacabey, Bursa. He finished primary school at Bilecik Edebali Primary School and middle school at Bilecik Anatolian High School. He completed high school top of his class at Bursa Karacabey High School. He entered Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry in 1994 and graduated top of his class in 1999.

He completed his PhD at Selçuk University in 2003 and was appointed Assistant Professor at Erciyes University Faculty of Dentistry. In 2006 he received the title of Associate Professor and held administrative roles at Erciyes University as founding department head, Senate member, dean assistant and chief physician of the Faculty of Dentistry.

In 2011 he was appointed Professor at İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University, becoming one of Turkey's youngest professors at age 34. Between 2010 and 2013 he lectured as a visiting professor at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, one of the region's most prestigious universities.

Prof. Uysal serves on the editorial and academic advisory boards of numerous domestic and international journals. He was for a time editor of the Turkish Journal of Orthodontics.

For many years he served as advisory board member and later executive committee member of the TÜBİTAK ARDEB Health Sciences Research Group. Prof. Dr. Uysal has also worked as Rector Assistant, Inter-University Council member, and founding dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University.

Since July 2020, Prof. Dr. Tancan Uysal has completely stopped performing orthodontic treatments with fixed braces and has focused exclusively on clear aligner systems. In a very short time he surpassed the 500, 1,000 and 1,500 patient milestones with the Invisalign clear aligner system.

He has repeatedly received awards including "fastest-growing orthodontist of the year," "doctor who treated the most adult patients of the year," and "doctor who treated the most comprehensive (difficult) cases of the year."

He has thousands of ongoing clear aligner patients and more than 500 patients who have completed treatment with clear aligners, with a very high level of patient satisfaction. Alongside routine orthodontic problems such as severe crowding, mandibular retrusion, mandibular protrusion, maxillary constriction, protruding teeth and spacing, he also prepares patients for surgery using Invisalign clear aligners.

Dr. Tancan Uysal is one of Turkey's clinical trainers and speakers for the Invisalign clear aligner system. He provides advanced-level training on topics such as "effective three-dimensional planning in clear aligner treatments," "treatment of vertical facial problems with clear aligners," and "extraction treatments with clear aligners."

With two iTero and one 3Shape three-dimensional intraoral scanners in his clinic, Prof. Dr. Tancan Uysal applies the entire Invisalign digital workflow in his practice. At every visit he digitally captures patient measurements with iTero intraoral scanners, digitally shows patients the final position their teeth will reach after clear aligner treatment (Invisalign Outcome Simulator), performs three-dimensional treatment progress evaluations mid-treatment (Invisalign Progress Assessment), and digitally designs treatment planning (ClinCheck) and smile aesthetics (digital smile design).

He has more than 300 publications and presentations, 130 of which are in SCI-indexed journals. Married to endodontics specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Banu Uysal, Tancan Uysal has three children named Ayşe Zeynep (19), Yiğit Efe (17) and Esra Aybige (9).

He is fluent in English and has beginner-level German.
