What is the Importance of Milk Teeth?

Milk teeth are 20 in total. The primary task of milk teeth is to feed the child. Also, the proper development of speech depends on the presence of milk teeth. Milk teeth protect the area they cover for the permanent tooth that will replace them and guide it while erupting permanent teeth. When the deciduous tooth is extracted early, this natural placeholding function disappears. The primary goal of pediatric dentistry is to take precautions to prevent dental problems from occurring and to direct children to a future without caries. The procedures applied for this purpose are called Preventive Dentistry Applications.

What are the protective applications?

Great importance is attached to educating the child and his family about oral health and nutrition within the protective practices aimed at preventing tooth decay. In our clinic, tooth brushing technique is explained to our patients in practice. Protective dentistry applications include superficial fluoride and fissure sealants.

Fissure sealant

It is a fluid filling material that closes the deep and decay-prone fissures (grooves) on the chewing surfaces of permanent teeth and does not allow bacteria to reach here and thus prevents decay. Fissure sealant applications should be checked every 6 months.

Fluorid applications

Fluorine is an element that prevents tooth decay and strengthens the structure of the teeth. Since the enamel is not fully mature when the teeth are first erupted, newly erupted teeth are generally less resistant to decay and are prone to decay formation. Fluorine protects against tooth acid attacks by strengthening tooth enamel and thus helps prevent tooth decays. Professional superficial fluoride application is a protective method that can only be applied by dentists. Superficial fluoride should be administered by a dentist every 6 months.

Decay in Milk Teeth

Tooth decay is a disease that starts with the destruction of the hard tissues of the teeth with acids produced as a result of the bacteria on the teeth fermenting nutrients. Especially in early childhood, when food such as honey, sugary or biscuit milk is placed in a bottle during sleep and given to the child, the common decays seen in young children as a result of soaking the pacifier in sugary foods are called bottle decay.

Deciduous Tooth Traumas

One of the most common problems encountered in childhood is traumatic injuries. The treatment is performed by considering the age of the patient, the degree of injury, the region, the tissues of interest and the general condition of the patient.

What Do Place Holders Do?

In early milk tooth losses, appliances called placeholders are used to protect the place of the permanent tooth from the bottom. Placeholders are appliances that prevent the neighboring teeth from moving into the extraction cavity, thus preventing the permanent tooth from being buried or coming out of different places, thus preventing future orthodontic disorders. The treatment of children who are compatible with the dentist is performed under clinical conditions, while the treatment of mentally disabled or anxiety children is performed by applying sedation or under general anesthesia.
